Critique No definition has been proposed. Romer (1956) coined this taxon as a monotypic family-level taxon redundant with Ammosaurus. Colbert (1964) placed Ammosauridae in his infraorder Palaeosauria, a group within which he included a melange of phylogenetically disparate basal sauropodomorphs and theropods.
